Trip Overview

Experience the challenge and excitement of hunting New Mexico's legendary elk country with Rancho Rojo Guides & Outfitters. These fully guided 1-on-1 public land archery elk hunts take place across some of Northern New Mexico's most sought-after elk units, including 2A, 2B, 2C, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 6C, and 7.

Hunters will pursue mature bulls across vast expanses of National Forest and BLM lands using spot-and-stalk tactics, calling strategies, and years of local knowledge developed by Rancho Rojo's experienced guides. Terrain ranges from rolling foothills to rugged mountain country, with elevations generally ranging from 6,500 to 9,500 feet.

Archery hunts occur during the September rut, providing hunters the opportunity to experience bugling bulls and exciting close-range encounters. Bulls commonly range from 260–320", with larger trophy potential existing throughout the units hunted.

Unlike private land hunts, these public land opportunities are obtained through New Mexico's draw system. Rancho Rojo assists hunters through the New Mexico Outfitter Draw Program, which can improve draw odds compared to the standard nonresident draw and provides professional guidance throughout the application process.

This hunt is conducted during New Mexico's September archery seasons. Hunters will draw either the September 1st–14th season or the September 15th–24th season, and hunt a 5-Day section within season drawn.

New Mexico applications for big game species are typically due in mid-March, with draw results generally released in late April. Rancho Rojo Guides and Outfitters can assist hunters with the application process through the New Mexico Outfitter Draw Program to help maximize draw opportunities.

Hunts are conducted on public lands in Units 2A, 2B, 2C, 5A, 5B, 6A, 6B, 6C, and 7.
Hunt length is 5 days.
All public land elk hunts are conducted on a dedicated 1 hunter to 1 guide basis.

Elk licenses are obtained through the New Mexico draw process and are not guaranteed.
Hunters may apply through the New Mexico Outfitter Draw Program to potentially improve draw odds.
Rancho Rojo can assist clients with draw applications and future draw planning.
Hunting licenses, draw fees, taxes, and applicable state fees are not included unless otherwise noted.
Caping, meat processing, and taxidermy services are not included.
Trophy retrieval from the field is included.
Non-hunting guests may be accommodated for an additional fee.
