This region is famous for producing both the Kentucky state record typical and non-typical bucks, with the state record non-typical taken less than eight miles from their Kentucky lodge—and Kentucky itself holding the record for the 6th largest typical buck ever taken in the world.
The Kentucky archery season runs through a long and productive fall window, offering hunters multiple opportunities to pursue mature whitetails beyond the early opener and peak rut periods. During the regular portion of the season, deer movement remains consistent as bucks transition between feeding areas, travel corridors, and bedding cover, often settling into predictable patterns around food sources and seasonal habitat changes. Hunters can take advantage of both vertical bows and crossbows, which are legal during this portion of the season, making it an excellent opportunity for a wide range of archers to experience Kentucky’s renowned whitetail hunting. As always, these are 100% fair-chase, free-range hunts on intensely managed ground where strong genetics, disciplined habitat management, and low hunting pressure create real opportunities at mature bucks.
